Challenges Faced During the Optimization of The Mike Ferry Organization’s WordPress Website

1. Identifying and Safely Removing Unused Plugins

One of the major challenges we faced when optimizing The Mike Ferry Organization’s WordPress website was determining which active plugins were no longer essential to the site’s functionality. Many had been partially integrated or were no longer in use, yet still contributed unnecessary code and configuration.

2. Detecting and Cleaning Up Bot-Created User Accounts

In addition to identifying and removing unused plugins, we also needed to address the large volume of bot-created user accounts with no valid activity. The challenge was removing these without affecting real users and ensuring all associated data was safely cleaned.

3. Safely Removing Orphaned Tables from Deleted Plugins

Considering the fact that the website had gone through multiple plugin changes over the years, several unused database tables were left behind. Identifying and safely removing these without breaking active site functionality was a key challenge. We had to identify and safely remove these without affecting current features or data integrity.

4. Page-Level Asset Optimization Without Breaking Functionality

We needed to optimize CSS and JavaScript on a per-page basis without disrupting layout or functionality. The absence of standard WordPress handles for some assets made it difficult to manage them safely and predictably.
