Challenges Ahead for Web Development Post COVID-19

December 20, 2024

Read Time 3 minCOVID-19 had its adverse effects on almost every possible factor that kept the social and economic cycle of the human race running. From the economic standpoint, the operations of some of the extensive and influential industries like sports, entertainment, tourism, retail, finance, manufacturing, oil & gas, media, and even technology were suffered on a global scale. Today in this blog, we shall center our focus on how the business environment of web development companies in the technology sector will possibly shape post-COVID-19.

But before we proceed with this prime discussion, let’s first understand the sole reason behind the downfall of such industries all across the world. The reason is lockdown and curfew and as a result, people cannot leave their homes and join the workplace to continue working. However, it is very crucial and essential from the survival perspective of human society to practice self-quarantine.

Also, it is not wrong to say that from the very beginning, our options were limited to just two alternatives and only one could have been opted for and enforced i.e.

  1. Keep the economy running by allowing the people to move and travel to work but at the same time, risking the lives of millions to death.

OR

  1. Restrict movement and crowding of the people through lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus but compromise the economy’s performance at the same time.

The majority of the countries went down with the second option, but it slowed down the economies, left many jobless, and exhausted the cash reserves of budding enterprises. Work from home is not an option that every IT company can afford to exercise. Hence, it becomes necessary to navigate the challenges or problems that such firms might face, especially web development businesses once the lockdown is lifted. It will help to impose necessary improvement plans and measures in the future. Let’s have a look at them.

Web Development Scenario After Lockdown

Let’s analyze the 5 challenges that will shape the structure & working model of firms involved in rendering website building solutions after the lifting of mandatory quarantine:

Engagement with Clients

In the case of IT organizations, not all of the clients are domestic. Many of them are based in different parts of the globe. But even after the quarantine, the travel bans will not be lifted all of a sudden and there is a great possibility that only some of the important routes will be opened. This will make it tough to evidence business travel, engage with foreign clients, and close the vital corporate deals overseas.

Arrangement of Capital

Capital is crucial not only for startups but for well-established organizations as well that aims to expand the scope of their operations. For this purpose, the partners are required to pay visits from one financial institution to another to explore the best available options of raising funds at a relatively cheaper cost. All of this hustle for the arrangement of capital demands lots of meetings, presentations, conversations, participation in events, drives, visits, etc. However, even after the quarantine, it will be difficult to travel and people would still be practicing social distancing.

As a result, the new, as well as existing players in the web development hub will face difficulties to establish and expand themselves in the existing and new markets.

Hiring

Web development firms rely upon their talented employees well-versed with the latest technologies to provide best-in-class services to their clients. However, the hiring of such employees will become difficult because placements demand the participation of lots of candidates at once. Concerning social distancing, it might become a problem to conduct interviews with many of them in one go. College placement will become problematic and difficult. Agencies involved in mass recruitment will also suffer.

As such, the hiring process will slow down and this might ultimately affect the objectives of the companies to widen their business coverage.

Technology

Having robust technology is very important for IT organizations to provide benchmark web development solutions. Since most of the tech companies are running short with the projects amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it is hard for them to allocate funds for the procurement and implementation of the latest technology. This can affect service and delivery quality.

Workspace

Not all web development companies have a workspace huge enough to accommodate all the employees and practice social distancing at the same time. This will force some enterprises to carry out their processes with reduced strength for the sake of implementing safety precautions to fight CoronaVirus.

Also, there will be a need to sanitize the workspaces after some regular intervals along with making sure that employees wear facemasks and sanitize their hands.

It will indeed take time to normalize the operations once again, but comprehensive financial planning and restructuring of important processes can help. The need for a new perspective and re-adjusting of the business model might arise.
